How to Make Travel Memories Last: The Art of
Photography & Videography

A travel vlog is the perfect way to capture the essence of any travel or experience. It’s also incredibly fun to make. Capturing my family’s travels has brought me such joy and newfound creativity, so I challenge you to try it too! Here are my tips to help you curate, cherish, and revisit memories for years and travels to come:

  1. Utilize apps like iMovie and CapCut

These are my favorite apps when it comes to creating and editing travel vlogs. And they’re FREE! Both iMovie and CapCut are user-friendly, allow for mobile editing, and pretty much perfect for our Apple ecosystems as well. iMovie comes pre-installed on Mac and iOS devices, so you don’t have to look for it on the App Store. CapCut does not come pre-installed, but it’s a simple search and download on the App Store. Everything on both of these apps can be edited from your phone, which means that you can upload clips into the apps directly from your phone, and not have to upload them to a computer first. And for my last tip, CapCut allows you to transform Live photos into videos which is a great feature (not one of iMovie’s) if you are short on video clips when creating your vlog.

   2. Ensure that your Live Photo Feature is on (if you're an iPhone user)

There's something pretty fascinating about the Live feature on our iPhones. It's like having a window to the past that allows us to revisit the laughs and living moments that were captured as stills. Plus, it helps us edit out inevitable blinks or photobombs. But what I've really come to love about Live photos is that they can be used to create Reels and travel vlogs (basically reiterating my previous point again here). I've snapped countless photos of my family and friends, beach sunsets, and even animals, and pretty much always forget to take videos to capture the moments. But thanks to Apple, I've been able to re-experience those moments and transform those stills into dynamic travel content, so I hope you'll do the same now!

  3. Choose music for your vlog

I absolutely LOVE music, so this is by far my favorite part when creating travel vlogs. When choosing your own music for your travel vlog, make sure to take into consideration the activities, settings, and environment you have captured. You always want the music to capture the vibe of your trip or experience. Use my travel vlog here as an example. My family went on a trip to New Mexico and spent time on a ranch, so I chose Morgan Wallen's country song called, "Whatcha Think Of Country Now." And now every time I hear that song come on, I'm immediately reminded of our travels and experiences in New Mexico because of the video I created to it.

  4. Share your vlog

Finally, whether it’s with your family, friends, neighbors, or followers, sharing your vlog can be a great way to connect with others and share your creativity. Further, you could connect with, inspire, and build a community that can provide you with support, encouragement, or other tips on your travels (kind of what I’m doing here 😊). You also never know who you could connect with by posting vlogs- old friends could reach out, distant family members may call you up for travel recommendations, or other creators and travel-related businesses could find you and open doors for your future travels! So NEVER be scared to share your positivity and creativity with others.

I sincerely hope these tips have helped you learn some more about making travel memories last via travel vlogging. If you have any more questions, want to share your own travel vlog with me (please do btw), or wish for more content like this, contact me. Now get going!
